Why?
Summer can be jam-packed for today's kids, and their time is limited (to say nothing of your pocketbook).
However, we firmly believe that a session at Camp NOARK can better a girl's character, her self-image, and her future.
Here are some of our favorite online articles about the benefits of camp:
On My Honor Forever - our own JerseyBurn wrote this beautiful piece about what camp means to her when we thought Camp NOARK was closing forever. Thank goodness we have a chance for NWA to rescue it.
Summer Camp Benefits - another Girl Scout camp veteran's story.
"Summer Camp is the Adventure Your Kids Need to Thrive" (great article on the long-term benefits of summer camp)
Richard Louv wrote a great book about the need to get today's kids playing outdoors. This is a quick overview.
"I send my kids to sleep-away camp to give them a competitive edge on life" (Washington Post)
"Why I send my kids to camp" (Psychology Today)
More than S'mores (This 2014 research report from GSUSA reveals the many benefits of getting Girl Scouts outdoors.)
"5 reasons to send your kid to Girl Scout Camp" (This is an article from another US Girl Scout council...great points!)
"Top Ten Benefits of Girl Scout Camp" (Another piece from a different GSUSA council.)

"I think the biggest change in Kayley this year happened after Girl Scout residence camp. She came home from camp believing in herself. She experienced the magic that I fell in love with in the 1980's."

"This is the sort of traditional outdoor experience I had hoped for when I signed my daughter up for Girl Scouts."

"I drove away worrying about her anxiety and homesickness, and came back to pick up a happy camper with a hundred stories about her new friends, singing songs and begging to come back next summer."

Support Camp NOARK
Post-COVID, times are tough for kids' camps and organizations. Our Girl Scout Council, Girl Scouts - Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, continues to commit to find a way to keep the camp funded in challenging times. Over 200 Girl Scout camps have closed or sold nationwide in the past decade. We want Camp NOARK to be one that bucks the trend, and we're working hard to make sure Northwest Arkansas - and our entire council - has this outdoor property for years to come.
One of our primary challenges given by our board of directors was for us to raise up a monthly support team that contributes toward paying the utility and operational bills at camp. If you or your daughter care about the future of outdoor Girl Scouting in Northwest Arkansas, and would like to help us keep our camp, as little as $15 per month can help us keep her afloat.
You can sign up to join our team online here or with this printed form. Be certain to designate Camp NOARK as the recipient of your donation. Then click above on the EMAIL UPDATES button to join our email list for the giving team! Thank you for helping to preserve Camp NOARK's unique, Ozark outdoor experiences for today's and tomorrow's girls!
